Contactless authentication protocols for MRTDs
According to the regulations of the European Union concerning the integration of biometric features into Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTDs) is a mandatory feature for EU countries. The introduction of contactless high security chip controllers into travel documents is accompanied by the introduction of new cryptographic protocols that aim at securing the confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of the biometric data stored on the chip.
The talk will introduce these new protocols and will highlight especially the usage of elliptic curves as featured in the German biometric ePassport.
